We all have items from our past which we are finding less and less able to enjoy as new technology takes over making them redundant. Do you remember the times pre CD when we had tapes and LP’s? How about the old film cameras? Well with their redundancies, there have been some new gadgets made which enable you to digitalise your collections.

Each of these new gadgets take the old formats, reads them and then converts them into new digital format which you can use with your computer, then transfer them to CD, DVD or some other format which you can play.

The first product which we’ll look at is the USB Turntable, then we’ll look at the USB Cassette Deck, Digital Film Scanner and then the USB Digital Video Capture device.

USB Turntable:

The USB Turntable will take your collection of 45’s, 30’s and even 78’s, and covert them to mp3s allowing you to play them through your computer and other mp3 players. Simple to use, these great little turntables are plugged straight into your computer through a USB port, and with the bundled software, quickly and easily converts the tracks into mp3’s. When you’re not taking the tracks off the vinyl, the trendy looking turntable can also be connected to your hifi allowing you to use the turntable as a record player.

The latest USB Turntable even has an iPod dock, allowing direct transfer to your iPod – simple. Available for preorder from Firebox amongst others this really has to be the easiest way to convert your old vinyl to mp3.

USB Tape Deck:

Like the USB Turntable, the USB Tape Deck converts your old tapes and cassettes into the MP3 format for you to use with modern players. Cassettes were really popular as people were able to tape off the radio, compile their own collections and take their music on the move in cars and played on boom boxes. If like us, you’ll have a whole box load of cassettes in the attic, never to be used again. Now you can! Relive the soundtrack to your youth, by converting them to MP3’s and allowing you to enjoy the music you grew up with once more.

Again really simple to use, simple connect to your computer via a USB lead, and you’re off. The USB Tape Deck will enable you to transfer the contents of the tape to your computer and convert them to MP3. There is now another option, the Plus Deck Cassette Converter is a piece of hardware which is installed into your desk top computer. Allowing direct playback this is going to be a popular alternative.

Digital Film Scanner:

This for me is the best gadget for bringing your old formats to life. The digital film scanner basically takes your old negatives and creates digital prints of them. No longer will you have to worry that your old photos will get lost or destroyed, you can now store them all on your computer. We’ve all got loads of pictures from our past which until now we couldn’t share, now with the Digital Film Scanner, you can convert them all to digital photos, then upload them to your favourite social network (like FaceBook), and share them with your friends.

USB Video Capture Device:The last of the products which I’m going to let you know about, is the USB Video Capture Device. This little beauty enables you to connect your video player to your computer, and then transfer the contents to a digital format. This device is again USB powered and connects to your video source via it’s output connections. The source can be your Video player, Camcorder or indeed any device which has a video output, connecting them to your computer, will allow you to transfer the contents across to your computer, for you to store or indeed edit or transfer to DVD or CD.All of these devices have been created with simplicity in mind, so that even the most technophobic can use them easily. I’m sure that they will take you down memory lane, and help you to relive some of your past. Keep your memories safe, transfer them to digital.

Grand Theft Auto 4 is set to hit our consoles on 29th April. We have taken a look at what we can expect from this highly anticipated game. Available for the xBox 360 and Playstation 3 only, fans of the previous Grand Theft Auto games will be in for a real treat.

Firstly a bit of Background information about the Grand Theft Auto series of games. Grand Theft Auto was the first game in the series, which spawned the birth of this phenomenal series of games, whose total now spans 8 titles and 2 expansion packs before Rockstar’s latest offering Grand Theft Auto 4. The success of the game is mainly down to the huge ‘world’ in which you can explore and cause destruction, whether free roaming or during mission play.

Grand Theft Auto 4 is being hailed as the first in the fourth generation of this game series. Utilising Rockstar’s very own RAGE game play technology, which was specifically developed to enable the games to use the power provided by the xBox 360 and Playstation 3.

The game once again is set in Liberty City (a fictional world based on New York and New Jersey) containing 5 boroughs, with no dead spots (like the vast desert areas of San Andreas Game). This however reduces the overall map area from San Andreas, but the City itself is the most detailed yet, and offers more game play than any of the other Grand Theft Auto Games.

Another major difference, one I think that will please most game players, is that there will not be any mid game load screens, which was the major bug bear of all of the previous games. This means that once the game has loaded, you will not be interrupted between levels, or map areas, you’ll be able to continue through in one go. The RAGE game engine means that the graphics are greatly improved, with more realistic movements over the different terrains, sharper images, more realistic characters too. There’s some new moves for your player (Niko) incluing climbing telegraph poles, playing darts and even becoming drunk.

You will enjoy the many new features and mini games that are scattered throughout Grand Theft Auto 4, and the attention to detail for this new game is incredible. So much so, that when you visit the internet cafe, there are over 100 websites that you can explore; all the streets are named this time around; and when Niko has stolen a Police car, he can even access the on board computer to access information about Liberty City’s criminals.

Grand Theft Auto has now become available to pre-order from websites, there are a couple of versions for you to choose from. Obviously the console format, whether it’s for the xBox 360 or the Playstation 3. But Rockstar have released a special edition version too. This is priced a little more than the standard version but comes with some great additions for the Grand Theft Auto fans, which in my eyes looks fun. You can expect the following items in the special edition version:

* A customised metal safe deposit box.
* A Rockstar keychain for the safe deposit box keys.
* A limited edition Rockstar duffel bag.
* Production artwork in the Grand Theft Auto IV Art Book.
* Selected soundtrack CD from Grand Theft Auto IV.
* A specially packaged version of the game.

The recommended retail price for Grand Theft Auto 4 is £49.99 for the standard, and £69.99 for the Special Edition version. However most stores offering it on pre-order have a special price.

Tour of Old Trafford Stadium

Home of Manchester United, a tour of Old Trafford Stadium is a real treat for any fan. Sampling all the delights that Old Trafford has to offer, from birds eye view presented at the North Stand to the dug outs, where Alex Ferguson shouts his directions to the team. Enter into the dressing rooms, and sit at your favourite players peg, take a trip down the tunnel and out the pitch, the same trip your team make every match day. Your knowledgeable guide will be on hand to answer any questions that you may have before taking you to the grounds museum, where you can take your time absorbing all that it has to offer including the vast trophy cabinet.

The tour of Old Trafford takes between 1-2 hours, and costs adults £13 and children £11. A family ticket will set you back £39.

Tour of St James’ Park

For the fans of Newcastle United, here’s a tour of St James’ Park which is bound to thrill.  Available every day with the exception of match days and stadium closures, this tour will take you on a journey through the history of the Toon Army.  You will also be able to experience the many areas which are normally of limits, including the changing rooms, the pitch side dug outs and even a trip up to the highest point of the stadium.  Lasting approximately 90 minutes the tour includes entry into the Newcastle United museum which houses photos and memorabilia from throughout the club’s history.

The tour of St James’ Park will set you back just £12 for adults, and Family tickets will cost you £39.
