Company Background
In the 1980s, Richard Branson was best known for the legendary Virgin Records. In 1984, he announced that a high quality, value for money airline would begin operating. Within three months, Virgin Atlantic Airways was born. Within ten years, Virgin Airways had flown over a million passengers.
In 1992 Branson sold Virgin Music to Thorn EMI and furthered investment into Virgin Atlantic, improving on an already great service. In the same year, Virgin launched the first super economy service, which became the award-winning Premium Economy.
In 1999, he sold a 49% stake in the company to Singapore Airlines, giving it a value of some £1.3 billion. Branson received a knighthood for services to entrepreneurship.

2002: Launch customer for the Airbus A340-600.

In Conclusion
Virgin Atlantic endeavours to provide quality service and value for money. Customer service and obligation to passengers has been the driving force behind the Virgin brand. The Virgin ethos is that passengers have a right to know what level of service can be expected, even when service falls short of the required standards, hence the Virgin "Customer Charter." The charter promises passengers that every effort will be made to investigate / resolve problems, and a written response provided within 4 weeks, if difficulties are ongoing.
